Why Make It a Collab
Baby Yu was the first out-of-town guest we brought to the city when we started our R&B night back up, and I asked him if he wanted to do a mix with me. He said yes, and that one stuck with me.
Now we're doing our R&B night at the Marquee on Saturday, and we decided to bring Baby Yu back along with Jester. I thought it would be great to get all three of us on a mix together to help promote the night.
Instagram posts do the job when it comes to promoting a party, but they don't tell you much about a DJ. If I'm introducing new names to the city, I want people to actually hear what these guys sound like before they see them live. Their taste, their mixing style, all of it. A mix does that better than any flyer ever could.
How We Split It
Twenty minutes each. I go first, Baby Yu picks it up from there, and Jester closes it out.
How It Actually Comes Together
I record my part first, then send over the full mix along with the tracklist so nobody's doubling up on a song. After that, it's on them. Whatever they want to do with their twenty minutes is completely up to them. No notes, no direction. That's the whole point of doing a b2b. You want to hear what they'd do with it, not what I'd tell them to do with it.
The Moment That Stuck With Me
Honestly, it's simple. The moment they both said they were down. These are DJs I've looked up to for years, and having all three of us on one project together isn't something I take for granted.
What I Want Out of This
Nothing complicated. Listen to it, save it, send it to a friend. That's it.
